Bio-Oil Review: Does It Treat Scars, Stretch Marks & Uneven Skin Tone Without Any Side Effects?

Bio oil is a specialist skincare oil that primarily helps in reducing the scars and stretch marks. PurCellin oil (a trade name made by bio oil) being the main ingredient makes the oil non-greasy and easily absorbable in nature. The product has high claims and that’s the reason it made up to my review list.

Ingredients: It has many ingredients which includes mineral oil as well but PurCellin oil is its main ingredient.

Price: It costs Rs.395 for 60ml , Rs.645 for 125 ml, and Rs. 900 for 200ml.

Shelf life: 36 months

Formulation: It is a very lightweight oil that gets absorbed very quickly without leaving any residue. It doesn’t feel greasy or oily and takes a few seconds to get completely soaked into the skin.

Does it have any color?

It has a peach tone to it when seen from the bottle but once you pour it into your palm you will see a transparent liquid.

Does it have a strong smell?

It has a pleasant smell that doesn’t linger for a long time. The smell doesn’t bother my sensitive skin.
Skin type: It claims that all skin types can use the oil as it is very light and can be easily absorbed. I would still recommend you to test it before investing in a big bottle. Though it doesn’t irritate my dry and sensitive skin.

How To Use Bio-Oil?

For face: Take a small amount onto your palms and rub it against each other to warm up the product and then directly apply it to the cleansed face. Massage it well into your skin to give it a flushed look.

For patchy skin or cuticles: Take a small amount and massage it into the problematic areas. Use it minimum twice daily.

For old scars/stretch marks: Take an appropriate amount of product into your palms and rub it against each other to warm the oil and then apply it into that part of the body where you have stretch marks. Massage it in a circular motion into the affected area properly. Repeat it twice daily to see a visible result. Use it continuously for 3 months.

During Pregnancy: They recommend it to start applying it from the start of the second trimester to any areas prone to stretch marks. It will smooth your skin and make it more elastic which will in-turn prevent your skin from over stretching.

My Experience Using Bio-Oil

bio oil review

I had a good experience with this product as I saw a visible difference in the texture of my skin. It became little glowy and dewy after regular use of the bio-oil. It hydrated my parched skin and also it helped in reducing some of those acne marks. I didn’t see a visible difference in my skin tone, the oil didn’t really make it even so far.

Overall I would say it is a good product if you have a little time to invest and doesn’t want an immediate result. It does what it claims and therefore I wouldn’t mind trying it for a long time.

Considering the fact that it is winters now I would definitely recommend this oil to all skin types. It is very thin and runny, gets absorbed really quickly, it can be used in multiple ways and on the top of all of these you need a very tiny amount for single use. So a little can go a long way.

From my side if you are someone who is looking for a good oil that can be used for almost everything starting from mixing with foundations to miniaturization, anti-aging benefits, a sleeping oil, reduction of scars, prevention and reduction of stretch marks to improving skin texture, tone and also for dry patches then you should go for this oil.

  • Packaging is travel-friendly
  • Multi-purpose
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • Doesn’t clog any pore
  • Non-greasy and non-oily
  • Makes your skin healthy and dewy
  • Does what it claims

Cons

  • Not best for very oily skin especially during summers
  • Takes a lot of time to show results
